What Is the KIMONOMACHI Kimono Bargain Market?
The KIMONOMACHI “Kimono Bargain Market” is a limited-time in-store shopping event held by Kyoto-based kimono retailer KIMONOMACHI. The event gives shoppers a rare opportunity to browse, try on, and purchase yukata, kimono, and traditional Japanese fashion items in person.
Because most KIMONOMACHI products are normally sold online and stored in external warehouses, customers do not usually have the chance to see items before purchasing. During the Kimono Bargain Market, visitors can directly view the latest collections, including 2026 yukata releases, plus size yukata, men’s yukata, and kids’ styles.
The event also features discounted items, recycled kimono, limited B-grade products, and discontinued designs from KIMONOMACHI’s original collections. Staff from the Kyoto Kimono Town online store will be available throughout the event to help customers with sizing, styling, and product recommendations.
Known for its treasure-hunt atmosphere, the event attracts both kimono beginners and longtime kimono fans looking for unique finds and special discounts.
Even first-time kimono and yukata shoppers are welcome at the KIMONOMACHI Kimono Bargain Market. Visitors can try on yukata in different sizes at the venue, while staff will help recommend obi pairings, accessories, and styling ideas based on each customer’s preferences.
To help customers wear their yukata confidently after purchase, KIMONOMACHI will also provide QR codes linking to yukata dressing guides and instructional videos. No reservation is required, making the event an easy and beginner-friendly way to shop for yukata and traditional Japanese fashion in Kyoto.
Plus Size Yukata & Accessories at the Event
KIMONOMACHI will offer a wide range of plus size yukata and kimono options at the event, including women’s sizes up to 4L and men’s sizes up to 5L. Visitors of all body types will be able to try on items in person and find styles designed for a more comfortable fit.
The event will also feature seasonal kimono accessories and innerwear designed for summer wear, including highly absorbent and quick-drying CoolPass 'nagajuban' (クールパス長襦袢, long under-kimono meant to reduce sweat), ro-collar slips (a slip-style undergarment worn under yukata or kimono), and lightweight 'sha kenjo Nagoya' obi (紗献上名古屋帯, a type of lightweight kimono belt). These items are designed to help customers wear yukata and summer kimono more comfortably during Japan’s hot festival season.
